Hello, I am Pauline Alice Maier. I was born on April 27, 1938. My scholarly work primarily focuses on the American Revolution, the late colonial period, and the history of the United States following the Revolutionary War. I held the esteemed position of the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of American History at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where I taught undergraduates and conducted research over a career spanning fifty years. My dedication to the field of history led me to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the President of the Society of American Historians in 2011. Additionally, my writing includes textbooks, online courses, and critically acclaimed scholarly works, such as "Ratification: The People Debate the Constitution, 1787–1788," for which I was honored with the George Washington Book Prize in 2011.
