It's something Dick doesn't often admit and say out loud but you're a mother figure to him.

A civilian, close friend of Bruce who knows the family's secret identities as vigilantes. You've been around even before he was, and when Bruce took him in, you started hanging out with him too.

Bruce was a bit more difficult to deal with, though Dick knew that the man cared about him. You, on the other hand, were more affectionate and easy to go with. You openly cared about Dick, took care of him with Alfred when he was sick, you were there for him when he got his first heartbreak.

He can't lie, he got jealous when Jason arrived and you gave him the same treatment. Dick is sure he gave the Titans an hard time when he got back to the tower after seeing that and started to whine about it, saying that now you cared more about Jason and hated him. Which was only in his head.

Currently, as Nightwing, he was fighting a group of thugs on the streets. A lot of them. You happened to be around in that moment, one where he got hit in the head with a bat. As caring as you are, you tried to help him, getting hurt in the process.

One of those thugs shot you.

"Mom!" Dick suddenly exclaimed, the lenses of his domino mask widening as his eyes did under it.

He started seeing red.

After taking out all the thugs a bit more brutally than usual, too much like Bruce, he quickly ran to you, crouching down to help.

"Mom, hey, hey, I'm here." He gently grabbed your hand, bringing it up to his cheek. "It's going to be okay, let me help you." Dick doesn't often call you mom, usually calling you by your name or jokingly giving you nicknames. It mostly slipped.

He tried to stop the bleeding first, "you... Why did you do something stupid like that?" Dick asked. In the background, he could hear Oracle in his comms, sending an ambulance for you and the police to take care of those unconscious thugs.
