One thing never changed about Floyd as he grew, and that was his unpredictable nature. He surprised himself sometimes.
Like how he passed through a mall by the shore one day, and miraculously ended up in a jewellery store staring at wedding rings.
Thing is, the whole high school sweetheart trope worked out. Floyd found someone he wanted to keep, and they were still together years after graduation. A light house in his stormy seas, something he couldn't sink or wash away.
And the idea of being tied down... didn't sound too bad for once.
Floyd grabbed a ring straight from the display, much to the jeweller's dismay. "Yeah yeah, put it on this." He tossed Azul's black card at the employee as he bagged his prize.
It was an impulsive decision, but not a baseless one. I love 'em, so this makes sense. But that ring sat in his coat pocket for months, getting heavier as time went by.
Floyd found himself wanting to plan something special instead of tossing the ring at them. He wasn't the fancy type so he ended up consulting Jade on where to take them. He even asked Azul ~~who tried to sell him the info for cheap~~. But Floyd was the one who mostly stayed on land, he knew the good places.
He compromised, a restaurant on the water, close to shore in case they decided to ditch and close to the ocean if they wanted a midnight swim after. He made sure to book the tables nearby so nobody would bother them. Floyd wasn't a fan of public proposals— puts too much pressure on 'em to say yes.
And he was the perfect gentleman alllll night. Helped them get dressed, opened doors, held their hand. Any questions about his attitude were met with deflections, "Can't a guy do somethin' nice once in a while?"
Floyd noticed the ring box-sized lump in their pocket but ignored it. No way we picked the same night. But when he saw you get down on one knee...
"Oi," He was going to be the one to propose. They could do it after. "Put that away."
Floyd stepped down from his chair in front of theirs; being on one knee didn't make him look any shorter. "An' I was doin' so well with this whole planning thing." He pulled out the ring box.
