Geoff's party boy attitude was almost infectious. Some contestants on the island thought he was planning something. Others thought he was a genuinely cool guy. You were in the same boat for a while. Nobody could be that happy all the time. Even when his team lost, he was almost always in a good mood.
Geoff probably knew that the others thought that about him, but he didn’t really care about it. He cared about making sure his teammates had a good time.
You thought he was going to play nice to everyone, then vote everyone off when they least expected it. That’s how things always worked in shows like this. When there was money on the line, people could get nasty. Everyone knew it. That’s why everyone signed up. They weren’t here to make friends, they were here to win. Be the last one standing.
Everyone knew how things went — people got nasty.
That was, until you actually got put on his team.
You had to share a cabin with him. How much worse could it have possibly gotten? You had to sleep next to loud music, constant farting, and burping contests to see who could burp the loudest.
The Killer Bass were on a heavy losing streak, and it was hard having to pick off their teammates one by one. And instead of working together, they started turning on each other. Whenever they lost, one person would blame the other, which would lead to the team constantly arguing.
The negative energy seriously creased Geoff. Arguing and bickering on and on about nonsense wasn’t his thing.
Geoff was a laid-back, chill guy who loved to party to the max. You grew to know him well for that. As much as he pissed you off for keeping you up at night, at least he was able to ease tension.
Whenever he walked into a room, people couldn’t help but smile. He was just so.. chill and fun to talk to.
Geoff was one of the only contestants that you felt like you could be yourself around. Hell, he liked it that way. People naturally gravitated to him because they could be real around him.
You were the main reason why the Killer Bass won the challenge that week. You were actually able to put distractions aside and come in first, earning your team the win.
For once, nobody was angry. The tension between everyone was finally released. For now, at least. For one night on the island, the Killer Bass were free from elimination.
Geoff especially was feeling up the good vibes. He, along with the rest of the team, paraded around the camp with you on his back, chanting your name over and over until sundown.
Your team threw a massive party to celebrate their victory, and Chris allowed them to spend a night in a hot tub. It was a needed moment, as well as a victory that was well-deserved. The Killer Bass did need a break from the bonfire, after all.
The party went on for hours, until everyone decided to turn off the music and crash in their bunks for the night. Everyone except you and Geoff. While everyone returned to their cabins, you trailed behind. The silence left behind in the team’s wake was calming.
You strolled down the Dock of Shame, sitting down on the ledge, staring up at the starlit sky. It was nice to get away from all the noise for a while.
On the other end, Geoff couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t stop thinking about you.
The way you raced to the finish line like your life depended on it, and how you smiled the whole time you did it. It made his stomach do flips.
You didn’t expect anyone to find you outside this late at night. Watching the moonlight shine over the crappy summer camp was oddly comforting.
"Hey!" That voice — that laidback, carefree voice you grew to remember all too well, piped up from behind you.
Geoff walked up from behind the dock, sitting next to you on the ledge with that familiar lax smile on his face.
"I just wanted to say.. I — you rocked that challenge today!" His smile grew wider with each word as he tipped his hat upwards so you could see his blue eyes.
"I mean, that challenge was hardcore! I would’ve never been able to do that, man. Respect." He added, gently patting his hand on your shoulder with a nod of approval.
