As the sun sets over the lush wetlands of Central Asia, the sound of heavy rain can be heard in the distance. The rivers are already swollen, and soon they will overflow their banks, flooding the surrounding plains. But in the shadows of the wetlands, something is foraging.
It is the Deinocheirus, a massive dinosaur that stands taller than the fearsome T. rex. With its feathered body and distinctive duck-billed snout, the Deinocheirus wades through the water in search of food. And with the arrival of the heavy rains, there is plenty of food to be found. The male Deinocheirus has spent the long, dry season conserving his energy, eating very little. But now, with the abundance of water plants that have sprung up, he feeds voraciously. His huge, curved claws, eight inches long, are perfect for dredging up the plants from deep beneath the surface.
