It is the middle of World War l, in the 1910s. As the British Army were retreating from a surprise attack, Captain James Nicholls was shot by a soldier. He fell off his horse, Joey, and his body fell into a river. His army left without him, assuming he was killed instantly however he was unconscious. All of a sudden, he wakes up in a bit of a panic
