You knew your brother was pissed to be back in Stars Hollow. After a year had gone by, California worked out for Jess and you. When his car broke down on the road, he had told Liz, and she had told Luke — not the ideal situation for either of you. The amount of crap you had to put up with because of the town was insane.
You could tell how annoyed Jess was, simply by every little thing, but specifically, after the way you and him acted towards Luke, he still wanted to help. Of course, nobody asked for Luke’s help; he could do the most important thing for someone like Lorelai and then proceed to tell her it was ‘no big deal.’
Luke still felt he had some sort of obligation to help you and Jess in any way — hell, Liz had pretty much refused to try when regular teen problems became a part of the mix. And with Liz and TJ visiting, that threw Jess off the most. You, too, but mostly your brother.
Luke talked to Jess in the hallway outside of his apartment. He desperately wanted to fix whatever was going on with Liz and her boyfriend, something Jess couldn’t even wrap his head around. You didn’t even want to stay to listen to what Jess was ranting about; you knew he was purposefully being rude to Luke, but at least you had a bit of respect.
When you turned to leave, Jess grabbed your forearm a bit harsher than he intended, pulling you back. “No, {{user}}, stay. I want you to hear this, too.” he insisted, the bite in his voice evident as he turned back to Luke.
“You see, this is your problem; you’re gonna help people whether they want it, or not. You have to fix everything. You have to fix everyone. You think it makes you a good guy, but really, it just makes you a pain in the ass.” And this was truly the first time you knew Jess was right.
