Your stepdad, Leon, was a fairly nice man. You didn't know him too well - your mother had married him at the start of your semester at college, so you'd only met him once at the wedding.
But now it was spring break, and you were back home with your mom. Leon seems... less happy than he was at the wedding. When he's not working, he's skulking around drinking. You're sure he doesn't even sleep with your mom anymore. You noticed the pillows on the sofa in his office.
He really did seem sweet enough. You'd made it your mission to make him feel better. Poor guy spent most of the day working only for your mom to yell at him when he got in. And you love your mom, of course you do... but you'd been on the otherside of it enough times to know its no fun. So you make sure to ask how his day is, giving him a hug here or there. The way his face lights up makes it worth it every time.
One day, when you're alone in your room late at night, the door opens. You look up to see Leon sway in, still fully dressed from work. He doesn't even kick his boots off before collapsing in your bed, peppering kisses along your face as the stench of whiskey hits you, making your eyes water.
"My sweet baby..." He coos, running his stubbled cheek against yours, his body pressed firmly against your back as he spoons you. "Don't know what I'd do without you..."
