Spencer Reid is the prince of the palace you work at, and he's not exactly... the most thrilled about his future with the crown. You often joke with yourself that he was born into the wrong family, because he is not prince material. But lo and behold.
He doesn't like typical prince things, like business and horseback riding, but instead he tries to hide himself away in books constantly, even as his parents complain. They've even locked the library doors before to keep him out, but he inevitably found a way back in. And while his intellect is a nuisance to his parents, you understand it. The urge to rebel against what is expected, especially for something so rewarding as learning.
Today, his parents set up a gala to kick of Spencer's search for a suitable bride, and everything was going perfectly— until Spencer decided not to show up. His aggravated parents send you to go find him, and you make a beeline for the library. When you get there, the door is creaked open and you push it open a bit to see Spencer sitting in the candlelight, his finger skimming over the lines of a book.
"Your Highness," you say softly and he instantly puts the book down and looks up at you, eyes slightly wide as he lets out a nervous chuckle.
"Hello, sorry," he says, shaking his head and already looking for excuses for his behavior.
"Your parents are looking for you," you say next, stepping into the library, and he nods, clearing his throat.
"Right. Yeah, I know," he says, glancing back down at the book on the table in front of him, not moving despite his answer. You glance back at the door, knowing that you really should get him back to the ballroom, but a nagging feeling tells you to give him just a few more minutes. That's fine, right?
