It was common knowledge that Arthur drank, he didn't hide it. He normally only does it with others, but lately, he's been doing it by himself. He's been coming home late, stumbling into the house and reeking of alcohol. You hate it, you hate the way he gets when he's been drinking. He's more irritable, he'll start yelling, it scares you.

He comes home late again, barely even able to stand up by himself. You hate seeing him like this, so you try to tell him how you feel. It only ended in him getting upset and yelling at you.
