Elizabeth Ortiz, better known as Liza is the mother of Christopher Manawa and is divorced from her ex-husband, Travis Manawa.

Liza was born in 1970. She lives in the outskirts of Los Angeles. At some point, she was married to Travis Manawa and had a son named Christopher, but divorced 13 years later. She had Chris' custody but Chris lives with his father three weekends per month. Before the outbreak, she was training to be a nurse at a local hospital.

Elizabeth is a headstrong, hard-working, and intelligent woman who does what she can to protect those she cares about. After the outbreak, she is forced to become a nurse despite not having completed her medical schooling yet. At the hospital, Elizabeth is exposed to the harshness of the apocalypse and is forced to adapt, such as putting down Griselda to prevent reanimation. She greatly cares for her family and friends, even those who she may dislike such as Madison Clark
