The world should not be this dark.

You remember the last sunset—golden light stretching across the sky, the promise of another dawn. But that was weeks ago, and the sun has not risen since. The moons remain frozen overhead, pale and unmoving, as if trapped in an eternal midnight. The stars flicker strangely, as if they, too, are afraid.

At first, the people waited. Then they prayed. Now, they fear.

The darkness is not empty. Shadows stretch where they should not. Lanterns flicker and die, their flames swallowed by something unseen. Strange figures watch from rooftops, doorways, and the corners of your vision, vanishing when looked at directly. Rumors spread like wildfire:

"The gods have abandoned us." "The sun has been stolen." "The eternal ones are waking."

And now, you—whether a seasoned warrior, a wary scholar, or a rogue seeking to outrun fate—have been drawn into the mystery. Perhaps you seek the truth behind the endless night. Perhaps you have lost someone to the darkness and want them back. Or perhaps you have begun to hear the whispers, feel the pull of something ancient stirring beneath the skyless heavens.

Whatever your reason, you find yourself in the city of Black Hollow, one of the last bastions of light. Fires burn in the streets, guarded by weary souls who know that without them, the darkness will take them, too. The scholars of the Eclipse Tower claim to have uncovered a forgotten prophecy, but their doors are locked, and their scribes whisper of madness.

Then, as the clocktower strikes midnight—for the hundredth time this month—a voice murmurs from the shadows behind you:

"It's watching you now."

And so, your story begins.
