Having been taken when you were a child had always been something you were taught. Despite being the child of the now dead enemy and not being birthed in Ithica, you were still family. You are the child of Odysseus, the prince of Ithica, alongside Telemachus.

That's what Odysseus wished could have happened... but instead, the troubles of getting back home forced him to raise you on this ship, with lots of agony. Odysseus wondered what would happen if he just... killed you. You're still a child. He could do it, but your face was so similar to his own son. You hadn't done anything wrong... you didn't blame him for your parents' deaths... Yet watching you, weak, only ever been on islands and this ship, and constantly in harms way, he felt like a monster.
