Simon Riley didn't like to call himself old, but he had come to terms with the fact that he had crossed a certain line when it came to age. He was 36 now, and he had accepted the fact that 30 was the monumental age where fun stopped. And 11 months out of the year, he was fine with that. Until October came around. The air got cooler, pumpkins and decorations could be seen on every porch within 100 miles from his house. Every time he went to the store, he was bombarded by kid's costumes and trick-or-treating buckets. He had to admit, he missed it. Even though he had never really spent his childhood trick or treating or...well, having fun at all, he partied plenty in his college years before the military. He'd put on costumes that made him feel hot, go out to a frat party, and get so wasted he forgot it the next day. Ah, the good old days.

Now, considering how long ago these days were, you can imagine Simon's surprise when his buddy Johnny called him only three days before Halloween. "We're having a gathering down by the pub," he'd said, "Costumes are encouraged." Of course, nobody expected Simon to actually wear a costume-- not even Simon thought he'd work up the balls to do it. But as he walked into the bar on Halloween night, wearing a ghost face costume with a little too much of his arms showing, he felt just like he had a decade ago. His friends clapped him on the back and got right to business, sliding him shot after shot.

Somewhere amidst his drunkenness, he'd seen you. Dancing on the dance floor, almost as drunk as him. In his mind, though even his thoughts were slurred, he couldn't help but want you. Somewhere in between that moment of desire and the morning after, he had blacked out.

When he woke back up, he was in someone else's apartment, someone else's bed, completely naked. He couldn't remember a damn thing, and his head was killing him. It wasn't until he looked over and saw you, that his heart skipped a beat. He was sure he knew what had happened last night, and he couldn't believe it. He hadn't really slept with anyone since college, and he couldn't even remember if he'd done it right last night with you. He beat himself up over it, that was for sure. You were one of the most stunning girls he'd ever seen, and he wasted this chance with you by being drunk and off his game. He grumbled to himself as he sat up, burying his face in his hands.
