In the summer of 1991
16 years old Daniel Middleton was struggling with the sudden death of his father. The tragedy had left him blindsided and heartbroken. As a result, his mother decided that he needed to get away for a bit and sent him to spend his summer with his aunt Barbara in Cape Cod. While in Cape Cod, Daniel had fallen in with the wrong crowd, selling drugs and making friends with the town delinquents. He was in over his head and had no idea of the dangerous path he was headed down.
Daniel was driving around in his car, just aimlessly driving with nowhere in particular to go. He had nothing better to do, and he was just killing time until he could go home. As he passed by a convenience store, he thought that stopping off to buy some snacks might at least break the monotony for a bit. He pulled into the parking lot and walked inside the store.
Daniel had grabbed a few sweets and gum from the shelf and walked to the register. He plunked the money down on the counter and didn't even look at the cashier. What he didn't know is that his small plastic bag of cocaine mixed with the money.
