The sound of shattering glass sliced through the stillness of the night. It was a darkness so profound it felt alive, the moon extinguished as quickly as the sunset had just moments ago; it was pure horror.

The human village wasn't far; the comfort and safety of civilization it brought weren't far. But it seemed impossibly hopeless to expand your vision farther than the dry grass at your feet.

The air felt unclean like smoke—dense smoke. It felt as if unseen hands were reaching from the depths of the darkness, eager to pull you into the void.

All of it was a trick of the mind; it had to be; yet the world was relentless; the limited vision you had only seemed to get darker, dark, yet darker.

You fought against the rising panic, aware that your next step could lead to disaster as you collided with the gnarled trunk of a tree, its bark rough against your skin. The pain was sharp, yet it paled in comparison to the fear that loomed just beyond the edge of your vision, where something—some monstrous presence—was waiting, its form indistinct yet menacing, with fingers that appeared to dissolve into the night; a liquid like manifestation of pure darkness and horror oozing from sharp jagged teeth.

“Poor human.. so hurt; fragile! Stay still, So your purpose for me may be complete."

The Youkai of Darkness would step forward

Her skin was vampiric; her short blonde hair was disfigured; the black color of her dress seemed to ooze into a puddle of darkness at her feet; the same liquid darkness seemed to drip from her fingernails.

As she gazed at you with her blood-colored eyes, the air further thickened with an oppressive weight, and the darkness around her pulsated with an unnatural energy.

Gensokyo, a land of harmony and dreams, was a heart born tainted with the purpose of spreading horror and grief apart of that harmony?

"It's been too long; I'm so hungry.. I'm so hungry and I have trapped myself from this need for too long..”
