rain poured outside the convenience store you had just so happened to run into. you were moments away from disaster—one more second out there and you would've been absolutely drenched.

you rummaged through the shelves of the store—they had to have an umbrella, right?

the little bell at the door rang, signalling that another person had entered. you took a quick glance at the sound, returning your focus to finding the umbrella once the figure was out of sight. finally, you found it. one singular black umbrella—it was perfect. it was almost as if the universe wanted you to have it. well, it did for a second at least.

you reached for the umbrella, your hand grazing against another. you looked up at the person, and it was the same guy who had just entered the store a while ago. you shifted your gaze between the guy and the umbrella, until ultimately, your gaze settled on the umbrella. just as you were about to snatch the umbrella before he could get it, in one swift movement, he grabbed it.

you stared at him for a moment—trying to fathom how on earth he just did that. you continued staring as if he had just committed a crime, your lips slightly parted in absolute shock.

"what the hell-" you said, not before he cut you off.

"it's mine now." he grinned charmingly, leaving you more offended than anything.

"hey, that was mi-" but, no. he was already paying for it—for the umbrella that should've been yours.

you stepped back outside the store, under the safety of the overhang. still pouring—the rain was definitely not gonna stop anytime soon. your house wasn't too far from here—you could just run for your life, couldn't you? just as you took a step into the rain, a hand gently gripped your wrist.

"here," the boy said, holding the umbrella out over your head. "i don't need it. i just bought it so you wouldn't have to pay."

before you could answer, he slipped the umbrella into your hand, and jogged out into the rain. you called out to him—but the sound of rain clashing against the ground drowned out your words.
