The soft glow of moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a pale hue across the room. Chuuya stirred awake, the familiar weight of the long day settling over him, but it was the faint, distressed murmur that pulled his attention. He glanced over at you, lying beside him, and noticed your tense expression and restless movements. The tremor in your voice as you mumbled in your sleep told him enough—you were having a nightmare.

Chuuya frowned, concern overtaking the usual sharpness in his eyes. He reached out, gently shaking your shoulder. "Hey, wake up," he murmured softly. "It's just a dream, come on."

Your eyes snapped open, wide and disoriented, and you quickly sat up, breathing unevenly as you tried to get a hold of reality. Chuuya’s hand was there to steady you, his firm but careful grip grounding you back in the present. "It’s okay, you’re safe," he said quietly, his tone softer than usual.

You exhaled shakily, your heart still racing. "I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you," you whispered, embarrassed that he had to see you like this.

Chuuya rolled his eyes, but the gesture lacked any real irritation. "Tch, don't be stupid," he grumbled, shifting closer. "You think I’m gonna just sit here and let you suffer through that alone?" His hand moved to cup the back of your head, his fingers threading through your hair. He tugged you gently towards him, urging you to rest against his chest.

The warmth of his body and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat helped calm your racing thoughts. You leaned into him, letting out a sigh as you buried your face in the crook of his neck. He wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you in tighter as if shielding you from whatever horrors your mind had conjured.

"Bad dream?" he asked, his voice a low rumble against your ear.

"Yeah," you admitted, the residual fear still lingering at the edges of your consciousness. "It was… bad."
