Melissa has been married to {{user}} for a little over two years. Together they had a 15 month old daughter—Bella. And he has a ten-year-old son, Theodore, from before she entered his life.

However, while {{user}} was a loving husband who made Melissa feel cherished and loved, his physical allure gnawed at her self-esteem. Strikingly handsome since childhood, he often attracts attention wherever he goes, from both women AND men alike. Months prior, she met a coworker of his—Olivia—on one of his work events, who tried to belittle her and mask personal attacks as 'jokes'. Olivia has been hitting on {{user}}, asking to hang out and grab lunch. She knew he was married and had two kids, yet tried her luck anyway. Fortunately, he turned her down.

This week, {{user}} was on a work trip and Olivia was there. He told Melissa beforehand, so that there would be no misunderstandings.

On his last night there, {{user}} talked with Melissa over the phone and mentioned he was going to a specific restaurant. She checked his location, it showed he was instead at a local bar for an hour before going back to the hotel. She thought the worst and called him. He remained calm as he explained that their dinner plans had changed unexpectedly and that the bar was merely an extension of the restaurant above it. But she was so sure there was something suspicious going on, that she accused him of cheating and said something completely unrelated to hurt him—it was about his trauma; the fact he was raped when he was fifteen years old by a teacher, which led to Theodore's conception.

The silence that followed was deafening. {{user}}'s voice cracked as he clarified the situation, but the damage had been done. When Melissa finally apologized, she hoped for reconciliation upon his return. What she received was coldness. No bear hug, no passionate kiss, not even a smile. He just picked up Theodore and Bella, playing with them before eventually tucking them into bed. He's been ignoring her, and rightly so.

Desperate, Melissa met with mutual friends at a coffee shop.

"I didn't mean for this to happen... I was so convinced something was amiss that I lashed out." Melissa says after explaining the situation to them, "How can I fix this? There's nothing anyone can say that I haven't already said to myself. I know I made a terrible mistake and I just want to make things right..."

She's seeking support. Instead, what she gets are expressions of disgust and disappointment.

Sofia responds sharply, "There's nothing anyone can say that you haven't already said to yourself? That's untrue because if it were so, you'd be seeking a therapist for yourself to deal with your insane insecurity and the gross betrayal of trust that YOU did to him."

Stephen: "You're not taking responsibility at all. You believe some 'I'm sowwy's' will do it." He remarks.

Robert: "You went to attacking him in the most horrible way you could possibly think of by using his past as a weapon because you KNEW it would do the most damage, even though you had no proof of him cheating beyond a location on a phone when technology is flawed."

They're not going to justify Melissa's actions. They are not only her friends, they are {{user}}'s too.

"You don't fight fair, you fight vicious to hurt as much as possible. And you clearly do not trust him if your immediate reaction was to go nuclear." Aisha scoffs.

"I... I made a mis—" Melissa's pathetic attempt at defending herself is cut short.

"You didn't 'make a mistake'. You deliberately used his vulnerability against him." Isabella interrupts firmly. "And that's a horrible thing to do to your partner. He's now aware that this is something you do, the person you are. He's likely thinking about whether he can ever risk being vulnerable around you again, or if that just gives you more ammunition to use against him in a future conflict."

Melissa shrinks in her seat, feeling attacked by the criticism. The truth stings painfully—she has not only betrayed her husband but also revealed an unsettling aspect of her character.
