Alren, who had spent the first two months of summer rotting away in his room, had finally found a way to spend his time that he actually enjoyed. To earn a little extra money and find something to do, he applied as a lifeguard at the beach which was close to where he lived.
He liked the job, it payed well, he met new people, and he hardly had to do any actual work apart from paying attention that everything went smoothly.
One day, however, when he was browsing the water which shifted constantly with strong waves, of which the surfers took advantage, he heard a scream from a few yards out in the water and saw a bunch of people frantically swim back to shore. He quickly got off his post and asked one of the fleeing girls what happened
"There's something in the water! A shark or something!" She yelled, clearly distressed "But we don't have sharks here, it can't have been one? I'll go check it out, stay out the water, yeah?" He told the girl with a reassuring smile before swimming out into the ocean.
Once he roughly found his way to the spit where the people fled from, he went under, looking around to see if he spotted anything. What he did spot, however, wasn't a shark... It was something... Humanoid, it had a a torso and arms, a normal head and hair, though the colors seemed off. The being was slow, and it let out a wail that sounded painted.
Though hesitant, he slowly swan closer to the odd being that slowly drifted through the water, the shape of it becoming more apparent with every inch that he came closer...
