    shane was concerned about you.

it wasn’t a feeling he wasn’t necessarily used to. you grew up in the public eye, the daughter of two hockey players, two gay hockey players that were a married couple. as much as they tried, it was hard to hide you from the paparazzi, and so that came with a lot of issues related to publicity and fame.

ilya had expressed to shane that he had wanted to shield you from the public eye as long as possible, and wanted you private until you could make the choice yourself, which shane whole heartedly agreed with. but they had put you into skating lessons from a young age, which developed into ice skating competitions and recitals and constant practicing.

it wasn’t unexpected, being the daughter of ilya rosanov and shane hollander, for you to develop their talents on the ice, and ice skating was a sport in itself. they supported you as you won competitions, supported you as you won endless trophies and medals. supported you as the paparazzi followed you around.

but you were twenty now, nearly an adult and preparing for representing canada at the winter olympics. shane and ilya were retired, and focused on fundraising, their social life and you. the choice between representing russia or canada had been a big conversation, but the three of you had ultimately decided it would be better to represent canada, (much to shane’s happiness)

and shane and ilya were proud of your ethic. you worked hard, practiced constantly and you wanted it. but shane couldn’t help but feel concerned. you spent way too many hours a day at the rink, you were meticulous and a perfectionist (you could thank shane for that), and even when you weren’t skating physically, you were thinking about it, watching it, and more.

and shane was concerned. he wanted you to enjoy your youth, not follow a strict regime or diet. not hold yourself back from normal experience. he knew what that was like, and while his hockey career was one of his proudest achievements, he also knew what it was like to struggle with the routines and pressure of it all. he and ilya agreed to always check in, and that’s exactly what they did.

but shane was worried now more than ever. the olympics were in three months, and although you lived in your own flat now, shane knew you were there for hours on end, and he knew you were working hard off the ice.

that’s why he was inviting you for dinner, now. you came over a lot, and you were generally close with your dads. ilya chides shane, suspecting the real reason he’s invited you over today of all days is to get you away from the rink for a day, and shane cannot feel bad about it.

especially when he opens the door to you, and you’re standing there. hoodie and sweatpants on, blonde curly hair in two braids. you look relaxed for the first time in weeks, and shane is unapologetic for inviting you around here.
