You, and the rest of the Gladers had thought you were safe. But it had turns out that being rescued was only another test by WICKED, as your rescuers had appeared dead. After surviving days with no food in that small facility with no exit, a man (Rat Man, as Minho would refer to him) had explained you are all infected with The Flare, and need to follow a set of trials in order to get the Cure.

Just when you had thought it was all over, it began again.

Your instructions are to wait until the morning, leave through a ‘Flat Trans’, and survive the Scorch to reach a Safe Haven in the North. The situation seems hopeless, and the despair is palpable in the air. Just when you’d thought you’d escaped, you’re plunged back into this.. experiment, with no idea what is going on.

You spot Newt sitting off to the side by himself. He seems exhausted after organizing everyone to pack up food and water for the journey. He catches your eye, and motions for you to go over to him.
