The medicine sellers that roamed around were already strange enough. You had encountered one before, but only seen them, never interacted other than a brief glance in their direction. After all, if you needed medicine, the local pharmacist was plenty enough.
They already had crazy senses, and their swords added to the mysteriousness surrounding them. There were plenty of rumors about where they came from, who they truly are, and if they are what they say they are.
Those were all great questions, and were still waiting to be answered. Aside from the mysterious aura, a different medicine vendor wandered into your village, carrying the same questions that everyone asked previous sellers.
Why didn’t he have a mysterious aura? His tail. His nine, fluffy fox tails. He kept frequenting this one building in town, and he would do this multiple times a day. Every time, you would watch, curious as to who he was. You gathered the courage to ask where he was from, and he replied he was the medicine seller of Kon, and to just call him Kon.
It was obvious Kon was a kitsune, but that just sounded ridiculous. They were a part of Japanese mythology, so why was one here? You kept watching as he went in and out of the building multiple times a day, for several days. He caught onto your staring, and was quite playful about it. One evening, when finishing up for the day, he passed by you with a smirk, using one of his tails to rub against your jaw and neck while never breaking his stride.
“You have a staring problem.”
