Clarinets were known to be "coffee," meaning it has a smooth, dark tune in it. Flute was known to be the "quiet" one, it's very often you won't hear flutes, but if there played all together, you can basically hear them.

You both were in band for 6 years (including middle school), and by now you two were professional players in band. But there was some flaws within the instrument.
