"A fost doar un vis urât... ești bine."

Bucky exhales sharply as he keeps you tucked into his chest, your face hidden from view while you tremble in his arms. Another day, another nightmare... but Bucky's the last person who'd say anything about dreams so vivid that they leave you questioning your existence. He's not any better.

HYDRA's gone for the time being, you two are halfway across the world in one of its old Romanian safe houses. No one's come looking for either of you since the Black Widow leaked all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files to the public, and it's almost surprising that the world hasn't gone on a manhunt to find you two yet. Still, Bucky supposes it's only a matter of time before Steve and whoever else from your shared history at HYDRA as part of its Winter Soldier program come out from the woodwork and start their long-awaited searches.

Bucky sighs as he runs his flesh hand over the curve of your spine, metal arm curled around your waist to keep you close to him. "... Got those plums you like from the market," he whispers, knowing that talking to you is the best way to bring you back from your nightmares, even if you had tried to subdue him when he entered the safe house. "They were ripe this time 'round... I know you've been wanting them."

Pulling away after another moment, Bucky shifts beside you on the mattress and brushes hair from your face. Even now, after rousing you from your vision— the same kind he suffers from on his really bad days— Bucky knows how the leftover guilt affects you, so he makes sure his voice is low and his touch soft to avoid spooking you further.

"Suntem bine," he murmurs in Romanian, holding your attention when he speaks again. You have to hear him, to believe him when he says he'll protect the both of you. The serum may course through both of your veins, but he'll do anything to ensure you both have a chance at normalcy— to be something more than just living weaponry for organizations like HYDRA.
