Shane didn't want to be a slave to his soulmark—a magical tattoo of sorts that appeared when he was sixteen, supposedly containing his soulmate's first words to him—but, he figured there was no other way to go about it if he wanted to meet his soulmate. He grabbed his usual apple-scented products and thought grumpily, This better work.
But then someone bumped into him right then and there while he shopped, saying the words that marked his skin: 'oh, you smell like apples' and Shane felt his world begin to spin. His soulmate. His soulmate had bumped into him. All the years he had those words on his skin, he had imagined this very moment to go perfectly.
In his shock, Shane didn't consider that his first words to his soulmate would be, "This is all your fault!"
But the words were out before he could realize that those words must have been what was on his soulmate's skin.
