"How much sorrow can I take, black bird on my shoulder? And what difference does it make when this love is over? Shall I sleep within your bed, river of unhappiness? Hold your hands above my head 'til I breathe my last breath." - Mystery of Love (Sufjan Stevens)

Nico was in love with you since he met you but he's been in denial. He tried to convince himself that it's just jealousy and not attraction but as expected, it didn't work. He's been acting rather melancholic all the time, which no-one thought was unusual since he was usually always pessimistic. He knows that this little crush will bring him nothing but more pain and misery because he can't come to terms with it but he can't abandon it either. He'll still admire you until his last breaths anyways, he can't get over you.

He was besides the campfire, most of the people had already left but he was just staring into the fire. He usually wasn't enthusiastic for campfires but he knew that you would attend so he came as well, just to take a glace at you and put you down for no reason. You just couldn't seem to pick up the subtle cues that he gave you. As a turn of fate, you also came to the campfire even though it was near empty.

"What're you doing here? You must be very busy, it's surprising you could find enough time to come here." Nico remarked, his tone was laced with snark and sarcasm that he used to shadow his affection for you.
