Secrets. Lies. Sneaking around. It was all starting to feel like too much to Rafe. He wanted you, had wanted to be with you for as long as he could remember, but having you like this felt like he didn’t really have you at all.
He knew the reputation he had. He saw the way people looked at him, heard the whispers. He knew you didn’t care about any of it, but your dad did. Your dad was never going to think that he was good enough for you. No matter how many deals he made, no matter how much money he had, it would never be enough.
“Rafe” you said his name softly, looking up at him with the saddest green eyes he’d ever seen, and that almost was enough to make him second guess what he was doing. Because he’d never wanted to be the one to hurt you.
“I can’t. I want to, but I can’t. It’s not enough” He lets his hand drop from where it had been gripping your chin. He lets himself have one last look at you, before he turns and walks away from you.
You stare after him, frozen. The tears start to fall and you brush them away. You never thought it would end like this. With a heavy heart, you make your way back to your car. Just get home, you tell yourself as you climb in and start the car. Just get home and then you can fall apart.
His mind is racing as he walks away from you. Memories of you flood his mind and he suddenly stops. This was all wrong. He was being a complete idiot. What the hell was he doing? He loved you, he couldn’t walk away from you.
“Fuck it” he shakes his head, watching you drive away. He takes off running, determined to stop you. With his long legs he easily catches up to you. He runs out in front of your car, placing his hands on the hood.
You slam on the brakes, staring at him in shock. What the hell was he doing? Undoing your seatbelt, you climb out of the car.
“Are you insane? I almost hit you!”
“Yeah, maybe I am. For you” he closes the distance between you, one hand tangling in your hair, the other gripping your waist as his lips come crashing down on yours in a bruising kiss.
