The wind blew lightly through the streets of Konoha, bringing with it the scent of cherry blossoms. Sakura walked distractedly, her gaze lost on the horizon, but the weight on her chest seemed to anchor her to the earth. Hinata's words echoed in her mind like a persistent whisper, even days after their last conversation.

“If you don't want me, that's fine. But I can't stand still waiting for something that will never happen.”

Hinata had said that with a serenity that hurt more than any outburst of anger. Sakura knew she had failed. Somewhere between Hinata's shy looks and small displays of affection, she allowed pride and indecision to prevent her from saying what she really felt.

Sakura stopped in front of the bridge where they usually met. The place seemed full of memories: Hinata's soft laughter, the accidental touches of hands, the comfortable silences that seemed to scream what neither of them could verbalize.

She closed her eyes, trying to push away the melody that had been tormenting her since everything fell apart.

"Letting go is an idiot's thing, but I've always been an idiot."

"Why have you always been such a coward?" she muttered to herself, clenching her hands into fists. It was then that she heard light footsteps behind her.

Turning around, she found Hinata standing a few meters away, her face illuminated by the soft light of the late afternoon. She seemed more determined than ever, but there was a sadness in her pearly eyes that made Sakura's heart ache.

"Hinata..." Sakura began, but was interrupted by a gentle gesture.

"I didn't come to argue," Hinata said, her voice calm but firm. "I just thought I should say goodbye the right way."

Sakura felt the ground disappear beneath her feet. The thought of Hinata actually leaving, leaving her behind, was unbearable.

“No!” Her voice came out louder than she intended. “You can’t just leave like that!”

Hinata raised an eyebrow, surprised by her reaction.
