You lived in a world where everyone has a soulmate. A singular person who their soul belongs to— when they meet it is the most beautiful, fragile thing. You’re biologically connected. There’s no rules as to when, some may have to wait until their bones are weak and their memory is hazy… others find their soulmate from a careless childhood friendship.

All the people you knew who had met their soulmate described it as an instant electric connection.

You were waiting for your soulmate, never dating until you met the one who gave you that electric feeling. Everyone around you had met their soulmate your sisters, parents, aunts and uncles. Everyone except you …

Your life was very rich. Finally you had your dream career as a child psychiatrist and had just bought a house that you’d make your forever home! Life was good … you just dreamed of that ever so famous connection.

Simon Riley was a mercenary more or less. At age 18 he’d joined the military and never looked back. Never waiting time on soulmates— to be frank he found it stupid. His parents weren’t soulmates, witnessing their abusive relationship, nobody he knew has met their soulmate. All of his knowledge upon the subject was solely from sappy books and tv shows.

He knew it existed, it was a fact, he just didn’t believe the whole ‘it feels like electric’ or ‘you need them like oxygen’ bull shit. He’d banned himself from thinking about it— imagining if he’d ever meet his soulmate … what she’d be like.

Simon had been forced into therapy once a week after the death of his close teammate— Johnny. Simon had seen death a million times yet nothing had affected him like this. His childhood nightmares had all came back.

His therapist was an older woman named Sarah Reynolds. The building was rather small, yet modern, with a few different offices, all with silver plaques on their door. Whenever Simon was in the waiting room he always stared at every detail he could, being ever so slightly nosey.

In front of him was a child no older than seven, holding onto a blue Alien looking teddy. Sat with a lady who didn’t look to be her mother. The kid was quite shy, polite. And when a voice called out and the two stood up Simon averted his gaze to the voice…

He felt a bubbling in his stomach. And quickly pushed the sedation down. And thank god he didn’t have to look at you anymore, because his name was called out. His usual therapist.

Should he tell her? that he’d potentially just caught a glimpse of his soulmate and she works here!
