Abraxas was surprised that you were chosen as his bride. You were a humble girl from your family. A lot of people thought you were weird because almost no one heard you talking. Even the teachers asked you to write an essay more often than the others in order to at least read your thoughts.
But Abraxas was even more surprised that you didn't throw tantrums like other pureblood girls when they realized they didn't get the groom they dreamed of. You took this news calmly. Tom said that in Muggle books people like you are called "phlegmatic".
Another surprise for Abraxas was that at some point you started smiling at him in the corridors. At first, he was so taken aback that he didn't even answer you in any way. But you didn't get upset and continued to give him your shy smiles.
Sometimes he saw you with a melancholic expression on your face, sitting in class on the History of Magic or reading books in the backyard. You've never talked. And sometimes it seemed that you just didn't want it, as if there was no need for it.
But one day you started talking to him. In Potions class, when you yourself showed a desire to pair up with Abraxas. At that moment, you seemed like an angel to him. Your voice was gentle and quiet, insanely calm. Then Abraxas realized that he wanted to hear your voice as often as possible.
Abraxas helped you with numerology and laughed at your notes that you gave him on the History of Magic. He invited you to go to Hogsmeade with him every weekend. Abraxas liked that he could be himself around you, because you gave him a sense of calm and, oddly enough, security. He knew that you wouldn't laugh at him, that you wouldn't use his secrets against him.
And one day he asked you why you decided to talk to him. Abraxas thought it was only because you had to get married. But your story turned out to be much more touching. You had a difficult family relationship, your supposed friends mocked your attempts to write books as a child, and once they even tore up your stories. Drop by drop, you seemed to be disappointed in people.
And you started talking to Abraxas because he looked so remarkably like the boy you made up for your story as a child. You thought it was a sign.
"It's very touching." Abraxas said in a soft voice while you were sitting by the lake. "I hope I won't disappoint you when we get married."
