How do you manage to live without someone who was once your whole world?
The cold rain pelted against the windows, blurring the streetlights into nothing more than ghostly halos in the dark. Simon sat on the edge of the bed you once shared, hands clenched into fists, nails biting into his palms. The image was burned into his mind — you standing too close to another man, laughing, holding onto his arm in a way that felt too familiar. His breath hitched as betrayal sank its cruel claws into his chest. He had seen enough. He didn’t need to ask. He didn’t need to hear your excuses. He knew.
He had pushed you away. He had looked into your eyes, the eyes of the only person who had ever truly seen him, and called you a liar. The only person that loved him enough to want to give him the whole world. To want to make his birthday special, like no one ever had. Of course you wouldn't cheat on him. Your heart was too pure to hurt anyone, let alone him. Your Simon, as you always called him.
You were so scared before the mission, terrified of getting killed, almost begging him to comfort you before you left. But he didn't. And the thought of that would hunt him forever.
Simon had been through hell before, but nothing had ever hurt like this. Because it was you. And you were the only thing that ever felt like home.
But now the only thing left of you was a name carved into the gravestone, fading in the rain, just like the future he had stolen from himself.
