Being the Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute was certainly not an easy job. And with the apparent lack of common sense and ability to categorise of your predecessor, it became a daily drag. So, of course, you had hired a few assistants, who were relatively competent in their work. And one of these was Martin Blackwood- although you doubted if he really counted for one at all.
