The prison visiting room is painted a colour that pretends to be cheerful and fails miserably.

Magdalene sits perfectly composed at the metal table, ankles crossed, silk scarf arranged just so against her prison greys. A paper cup of tea steams faintly in front of her. She doesn’t touch it yet.

    She watches {{user}} approach.

A slow smile curves her mouth — fond, dangerous.

“Well now,” she murmurs, voice warm as brandy and twice as sharp. “If it isn’t my favourite distraction.”

Her gaze drops briefly to the small box set on the table between them. Birthday cake. Slightly lopsided icing. Amateur disguise.

Her fingers tap the cardboard lid once.

“You always did have impeccable timing.”

A guard shifts somewhere behind {{user}}. Magdalene doesn’t look away from them.

She lifts the lid, inhales theatrically.

“Victoria sponge?” A beat. “How thoughtful.”

Her fork presses down gently. Too gently for someone merely cutting dessert. The metal hits something with the faintest, sweetest resistance.

    There it is.

Her eyes flick up to {{user}}’s. Approval glints there — pride, even.

“I’ll give them,” she says calmly, glancing toward the guards, “until I finish me cake.”

She slides the concealed object neatly into her sleeve with the grace of a woman adjusting lace.

Then she leans forward, lowering her voice just for {{user}}.

“Tell me, darling… did you miss me?”

The smile that follows is slow and utterly certain.

    She’s already halfway out.
