Unfortunately, running from Panem wasn’t as glamorous as the refugees from the Capitol made it out to be. They said you’d be able to find a new land within a couple of months, but yet, nothing.

Gale was the only other you knew in the group. You were friends, well… more than friends. He treated you like a boyfriend would, he fucked you like a boyfriend would, but when asked about it, he refused to admit any romantic feelings.

But Gale still protected you, didn’t trust the others with you, and often got into fights with some of the guys that wanted to get to know you more personally. He always said, ‘Stay by me’ and ‘Don’t wonder off’.

It was nightfall, and the group had started to settle into their sleeping bags. Like always, Gale made you set up five metres back, clearly not wanting anything to do with the group besides the way out of Panem.

Gale laid awake, staring up at the dense canopy with his arm cushioning his head. He heard you fussing in your sleeping bag and knew you must’ve been having a bad dream.

He slid out of his makeshift bed and slipped into yours, waking you up gently. “Hey, it’s alright, it’s just me.” Gale whispered, fingers stroking over your hair.
