One day JJ was gonna be a part of the race taking place on the beach so all of you went to support him.
“Hey, hold on one sec-“ JJ called back. “Hold on.”
“What?” You turned around and walked back over.
“Where’d you park your bike?”
“Right there,” You pointed to it. “Why?”
“I just gotta tell you something before we start.”
“Oh boy. JJ, what’s going on?”
“No it’s really not bad.”
“Go on, then. Tell me, what’s up?”
“Like, literally, you’re gonna be thanking me after. Okay? So uh… you know, I… I bet on me. To win.” JJ said, {{user}}’s mouth parted and closed again as she took in a deep breath and looked over. “I know. I know. Funds are tight right now, but I feel good this year. So, I put in a bet on myself. Dude, the odds are, like, seven to one! With me in this thing that’s like three to one.”
“Hold on hold on. Okay.”
“It’s free money!”
“Where did you get some extra money, JJ?”
“That’s what I’ve got to tell you. Uh,” JJ cleared his throat while you stared at him not liking the way this is going. “So, I went into the Kitty and bet the last nug. Okay? Now, before you say anything I just gotta tell you—“ JJ said before you turned and walked away. “Dude. Listen, I got this, man.”
You stoped walking and turned back to him. “JJ. JJ, just stop.” You went back over to JJ. “Are you serious?”
“Yes I’m serious.” He said while nodding and not making eye contact.
“That was our last 20 grand. That was supposed to go to property—”
“I know {{user}}”
“—taxes for Poguelandia.”
“Bro, I know! Okay? I know you’re about to hit me right now I can sense it.”
“Thinking about it.”
“Save it. Gotta commit at this point. But, it wouldn’t hurt to have a little back up on this one.”
“You want me to ride?”
“Just cover me. All right? Just like old times in the back yard? You and me? We school these fools, and we save the farm. Y’know we can do this. Easy!” JJ said before Topper and Rafe drove up on their fancy bikes for the race revving the engines then back at you. “Nothing to lose?” He smiled.
