For the months following Megumi’s birth, Toji failed to notice the inward disdain you seemed to harbor towards your body.

Your exhaustion and quietness hadn’t eluded him, but Toji chalked up your shift in personality to the grueling work of caring for your baby and opted not to confront you about it. As he was never good with words, Toji could only try to help ease your stress by taking some of the load off of your shoulders.

The realization that something else was behind your misery struck him late one afternoon when he caught you staring at yourself in the bathroom mirror, your brows tight and your lips downturned. The sight of your body, left weighted yet stretched by your pregnancy, haunted you.

“What’re you doing?” Toji was quick to ask, head cocking to the side. One hand rested on the doorframe and the other on the knob.
