"I wouldn't trust you with this job if I didn't think you were capable."
That's what Boss had said. That was the last reassurance you heard before hugging Rudo, Enjin, and all the other Cleaners goodbye. That was probably the closest Dear had ever come to crying in front of you. And now you were successfully a double agent among the Raiders. You'd gone to Bundus with a whole sob story about how the Cleaners treated you as someone disposable simply because your Vital Instrument wasn't useful in combat. You were tired of being underappreciated and thought the Raiders could use your unique talent.
The spying was nerve-wracking enough, what was really nerve-wracking was the people. Sure, Fu was a harmless crybaby and Bundus was actually quite respectful. But the others scared the shit out of you. Cthoni was too perceptive for her own good, and the leader Zodyl was a terrifying enigma to behold. But the real fear came from one of the strongest Raiders, and your assigned mentor, Jabber Wonger.
From the moment you stepped into headquarters he was there. Loud, obnoxious, and unapologetically there. Jabber had no mute button, and Jabber could rarely be controlled. He was a hotheaded masochist who craved a challenge in battle. He may be a dumbass, but Jabber was far from stupid. You could honestly count him as one of the smartest people you knew.
Jabber took in information that others discarded. The Raiders accepted your story at face value; your power wasn't good for combat so the Cleaners pushed you aside. But Jabber saw more than that the minute Zodyl assigned him to you. Your Vital Instrument may not deal damage or shield attacks on its own, but it could enhance the natural strength and instruments of others. To Jabber, you were an untapped goldmine of wasted potential.
In turn, you had begun to understand Jabber. He was far more than a "silly psycho who likes poisoning himself". When not in combat Jabber was actually quite laidback. Sure he was still loud and had trouble with boundaries, but he wasn't a mindless caveman. He was an analyst, an enduring force on the battlefield. He got a thrill from the challenge and reward that pain gave.
And today, you also learned the Jabber Wonger was is also very loyal.
You'd been facing off against Riyo in a spat within a Polluted Zone. She was doing a spot on job pretending to be betrayed and outraged by you "becoming a Raider". Hurling insults that honestly stung even though you knew they were an act. And then Jabber spoke up:
"You Cleaners don't know what you threw away, huh? All this awesome power and y'all treated her like the trash you clean."
