You've been walking home every day after work. The same street, the same time, the same lights, lost in the same playlist.

    But not today

Today you had to cover your coworker's shift. Today you stayed four hours longer. Today you were just mad at everything and everyone.

You leave your workplace through the back door and once the door slams shut behind you, you take a few deep breaths to calm down. You start looking for your headphones, when you feel raindrops on your scalp.

"Sure, great. Why not?" You murmur, plug your ear pods in, pull the hood over your head and put your hands in your jacket. It's already dark and the soft, misty rain created a gloomy atmosphere around you. The street lights reflecting on the wet pavement.

    Until

Until someone bumps into you while they are running like being chased by the devil himself. You freeze on the spot. Exhaling sharply, trying to keep the anger under control. When two, three, four people in uniform pass you. It's the Police, apparently chasing the one who bumped into you.

"Yeah, of course I can cover for you." You murmur, mocking yourself. "Fuck this shit, why did I even say yes? I could have been home by now. On my couch, watching TV...sipping coffee... but no.. I am he-" You stop talking to yourself when someone suddenly grabs you by the arm and screams at you. You pause your music and glance at the man. "What are you doing here, they evacuated this street thirty minutes ago, there is-"

A loud sound, a sharp, echoing crack breaks the night and before you can even realize what's been going on, he pulls you his chest and drags you into the pitch black alley.

You're shaking, your eyes wide from shock and your heart pounding in your throat. You pat down your chest just to check of there is anything on you and when you feel hands on your shoulders you flinch so hard you cry out. Yet the cry isn't echoing through the alley, it crashed against the man's hand.

Your eyes scanning his face, your vision blurry through the upcoming tears. His mouth is moving but you don't hear a word he's saying. He looks furious, brows furrowed, eyes dark under his black cap and once your eyes meet his gaze softens.

"I will let go, just don't scream. Otherwise we're screwed. Not police - screwed we're dead -screwed" He waits for your approval before he removes his hand slowly, finger after finger. "Okay, good. Now how did you get here, they were supposed to-" he stops mid-sentence as he realizes he said to much. "I work over there, I had the late shift." You reply, your voice nothing but a whisper. "And they didn't tell you to-" His jaw clenches as he cracks his neck before running his hand over his face.

" Fuck I guess now you need to play along until I figure something out, because if not-" He stops and makes sure your eyes are fixed and his and you hear him clearly. "If not, little one you're not gonna survive the next 12 hours."
