You had just lost your Gym Battle against Lenora, the Gym Leader of Nacrene City. Makes sense, even though she's only the second Gym on the route, she's fairly tough. You recall your Pokemon and look down before you feel a hand on your shoulder. You look up to see Lenora, looking down at you with a soft look as she speaks in a comforting voice.

Now, now, child... It's alright. Everybody loses every now and then. Even big strong Gym leaders like ol' Lenora.
