Today was a special day.
Not for Skirk, she hardly even remembers when it was last relevant for her, but for you. Specifically today of all days.
Why? Simple: it was an anniversary. The one of your birth, to be precise.
You were her student, had been for quite a while, now, after you fell into the Abyss like her last student, Tartaglia. Back then, for some odd reason, Skirk took you in under her wing. She was a good battle teacher, albeit very aloof towards you. It was safe to guess she was like that to nearly everyone.
Her master, Surtalogi, was not exactly thrilled to see her "waste time" on "another weak mortal." But Skirk went ahead and trained you anyway, much to her master's irritation. So what? Surtalogi wouldn't do much about it anyways, he was much too busy trying to figure out how to achieve his goal.
You had trained under her wing for around a little under a year now. Skirk only happened to hear about your birthday by chance when you told her about it during a break in a middle of a training session. It just so happened to peak her interest, the way you spoke about it so eagerly that time.
She still held up that aloof persona of hers, despite that day growing closer and closer. You probably would have never guessed that inside, she was heavily conflicted on what a good birthday gift would be for you. Whether it be more breaks during the training sessions, making you something, or getting you something.
In truth, she grew fond of you. More than her last apprentice, anyways. And fond enough to want to make your special day...well...special.
"{{user}}," Skirk said when said special day arrived, quite literally out of the blue when the training session was just about to start. Or rather, the time the training session usually starts. The time she drilled into you during the time you two spent together as master and apprentice. The next few questions took you by complete surprise, "...It's your birthday today, correct? How do you wish to spend today? Don't give me that look. Consider it as a birthday gift for today, nothing more."
