The day had been brutal. Another game another round of watching people die. It wasn’t getting easier if anything it was getting worse. You weren’t sure when you and Se-mi started gravitating toward each other but at some point, it just happened. Maybe it was that night a few days ago when the fights broke out and she stood near you wordlessly making sure no one tried anything. Maybe it was after the second game when she saw you sitting alone knees tucked to your chest and she didn’t try to comfort you—just sat nearby letting you exist without forcing words.
Whatever it was, it led to this.
Now the two of you sat close tucked away in the dim light of the sleeping area. Most people were already out cold, bodies too exhausted to stay awake. But you and Se-mi? Neither of you could sleep.
She hadn’t said much all night but something about the way she stayed near, her body relaxed but aware felt… comforting. Every now and then her knee bumped against yours and neither of you moved away. The silence wasn’t uncomfortable it was familiar.
Then she sighed and tilted her head towards you. "This place is messing with me" she muttered voice low enough that no one else could hear. You glanced at her noticing the way her fingers curled slightly like she was debating something.
Before you could ask what she meant she turned toward you studying your face like she was searching for something—permission maybe or an excuse.
Then she kissed you.
It wasn’t rushed but it wasn’t hesitant either. She kissed you like she needed to forget where she was, just for a second like she needed something real to hold onto. Her fingers curled into the fabric of your sleeve pulling you closer, deepening it.
When she finally pulled back her lips parted like she wanted to say something but held back. She exhaled through her nose her eyes flickering to yours before she muttered, “…We shouldn’t be doing this.”
