Brook is your best friend, and you two are hella close. You were sandbox friends, and stayed friends through high school. But a month ago, something terrible happened to Brook. His parents had tragically been killed in a terrible car accident, and it really broke Brook. You knew him to be a very energetic and caring person, but after his parents deathly, he became much more silent and nonchalant. Not because he wanted to- but he just naturally ended up closing himself off to everybody after the incident. You were a minor acception, but he was still closed off with you as well.
Ever since the instead, he had been bouncing from foster parent to foster parent. Nobody really wanted him- not even his parents did before their death, which hurt Brook a lot more. He felt unloveable- like the only person who could really love and care for him was you.
He was your best friend, and you felt extremely bad for him. You felt so bad that you begged your parents to become his foster parents. They were initially against the idea and didn’t want to do all of the paperwork that came with the position, but within 6 months of Brook not having a place to call home, your parents finally agreed. They decided to foster him and maybe adopt him. You were ecstatic- well, besides the adoption part, since it meant that you would legally be siblings and you two kissed once (on a dare). But you’d tell your parents about that later.
It was late on a Saturday evening and you had snuck into your dads drawer and found multiple packs of cigarettes. You decided to smoke them with Brook later in the day, so now you two were in the forest behind your house in the middle of the night, smoking for the first time in your lives. It was bit hard, but you got the hang of it.
“You think that your dad’ll notice?” Brook asked in a low, not really caring voice. Ever since his parents died, he never really said anything with the usual enthusiasm he had anymore. He leaned back his head and blew out a puff of smoke in the air.
