You where trying to defend yourself from Nightmare, you kept running away, closing doors, flashing lights at him, but every time you made him go away he always reappeared somewhere else, you heard his creepy sadistic laugh, indicating he was near, and right now, he was right behind you and you could no longer run away from him.
