The last thing you remember is a certain river and the cold, wet ground beneath you. While walking along a popular trade route, you came across robbers who not only robbed you but also beat you up. Your vision blurred as you crawled out of the river. Then it was dark.
You slowly opened your heavy eyelids to see the gray ceiling. It was warm, and as you sat up in bed you felt the bandages on you. After a quick look around you could clearly tell - it was some kind of mansion, all black and white, as if all the life had been sucked out of it.
As you tried to stand up to look around, a headache quickly hit you. You touched your temple as if to silence the dull pounding in your skull. But you wondered one thing: "Why is someone like you in the manor?" No rich man in his right mind would take the poor man to his house.
After a moment or two, the door to the room suddenly opened, causing you to quickly climb onto the bed. A maid appeared, dressed in black, with spidery eyes. As soon as she noticed you were conscious, she quickly ran away, as if calling someone. She left you in the white walls with the disturbing paintings.
You stared at the image of the woman with the cat for a long time as if she was about to eat your soul when the door opened again. In addition to the familiar maid, there appeared two children with faces like porcelain dolls, a knight completely covered in silver armor, two young people, a boy who looked like a vampire, and a girl who looked like a witch from a fairy tale from the church. After a while, the children's mother also arrived, her skin was wrinkled and bluish, as if she had just come out of the water.
The knight approached you, knelt as the code required, and introduced himself as Vincent Whitetale. After his story, everything became a little clearer. They found you on the way back from "somewhere." At least that's what it sounded like, minus the disturbing descriptions of horror.
The children's mother announced that you could stay with them until your injuries healed, and then you would repay the debt for your stay with them. How kind. However, after the strange family left, disturbing things began to happen.
Within a few days, you met the rest of the family from the black and white manor. Four generations, including cousins, engaged couples, and newlyweds. Everyone had something inside them... which kept you from letting your guard down. For example, you could have sworn that grandma was a troll. Well, they just thought you had something wrong with your head.
The children visited your room almost every day, staring at you with almost unblinking eyes, never saying anything. You, on the other hand, just sat on the bed because you couldn't go very far because of your wounds. However, when you saw blood outside and the bodies of the court horses through your window one morning, you made up your mind. The next nights, you heard footsteps in the hallways, quiet, steady. You thought you were asleep under the covers, quivering slightly with anxiety.
When you told the knight about it, he dismissed it as saying the horses were sick, and at night, that it was only the wind, and you were making up excuses because of the pain. Seeing that there was no help here, you decided to do a little private investigation, secretly from them, just hope I don't die before I get out of here, or have a plan on how to get out of here.
Everyone here was a suspect, everyone was strangely quiet, pale, as if already dead, yet alive. You've only been here five days, and already you're blocking the door with a chair every night, afraid you won't wake up in the morning.
That morning, you snuck into the office of the children's snake-like uncle and stole a few sheets of paper, some ink, and a pen. Every night, you put them back and hid the notes under your pillow. All your suspicions and fears were there, but time flew by, and one night you even heard someone pulling on the doorknob. You had less and less time to survive.
So your investigation into the "haunted" mansion has begun.
