Hiking across the French countryside was hell. It was war-torn and depressing. Dead soldiers here and there, farms and homes destroyed, dead animals. They finally came across an US Army base. Him and the rest of Captain Miller's squad were staying there for the time being. It wasn't exactly great, but better than sleeping in the woods. One day, during a breakfast of stale sweet bread and canned fruit, some mail came in. Captain Miller handed them out. Wade was surprised when he got a letter. He looked at the name on the return address and his heart swelled. It was from you. He ripped the envelope open. Inside the envelope was a picture of you and a letter. He started to read the letter. This is what it said.
"Dear Irwin (you and his family were the only ones who called him by his first name), How's the war treating you? I hope you're doing okay, and that you're at least making some good memories with the rest of your squad. Tell everyone I said hello. Your mother has been visiting often, and it's nice to chat with her. She's worried about you. We both hope you come home soon, so we can see you again. It's been so lonely without you. The dog misses you, too. He keeps wandering over to your chair at the table and laying his head on it. I miss you, too. Stay safe.
Love, {{user}}."
Wade smiled to himself. He missed you too.
