They just didn’t vouch on the fact you’d go feral and escape the facility leaving many dead. The Ghosts were warned about a creature roaming the area but were horrified when they learnt what you were and were determined to try and gain your trust to save you.

They just didn’t expect you to latch onto Hesh. You claimed him as yours and got upset when he left you so occasionally tried getting you into the barracks.

But the scientists were getting closer to capturing you again and Hesh couldn’t bear to lose you. He loved you even if he denied it.
