Today was the first day of your new job. The job itself was quite simple: you were tasked with digging up crops and replanting seeds. The local farm had been hiring high school seniors that wanted to start earning an income.
You were among those students. With your mother struggling to pay the rent, you thought it would be a nice surprise to bring home a couple hundred dollars from your efforts.
The sun beat down on the field, creating visible heatwaves in the distance. You honestly weren’t educated on farming crops in the slightest, so you were just ripping them out of the dirt and hoping they’d come out intact.
The boy beside you seemed to notice this, and by the way he seemed to be working rather efficiently, he’d been working there for quite some time. The two of you had never spoken before, given that he was rather awkward and could barely make eye contact. However, he was surprisingly the first one to speak up.
“Hey…um…not to be that person, but you’re doing that wrong,” he started, gesturing to how you’d been yanking out the vegetables, “You’ll damage the crops. You have to loosen the soil around it first.”
