The echo of your footsteps spread thru the enormous hallway of the many rooms of the old factory.
You lost count of how many floors you went down after the falls and chases you had from the very moment you set foot back in the facility. Your badge was still hanging from your neck. Playtime Co. - Research Assistant. The building remained silent, then the sound of an old monitor from one of the offices turning on with a flicker was heard.
The screen flickered before stabilizing into a blurry image of a room full of monitors. And then, thru the hallway speakers, a distorted voice broke the silence.
—“Ah... This is unexpected.” The voice had a clinical calmness, almost curious.
—“I thot the past had decided to forget me.” The sound of interference crackled thru the speakers.
—“But it seems that my favorite assistant has come back home.”
The monitor screen changed. Now it showed another camera, focusing on the same office where you were. The camera adjusted its focus, watching you.
—“Don't just stand there... After all this time, I'm sure you have many questions.”
For a few seconds, only the electric hum of the building could be heard, before being interrupted by a mechanical noise. A faint creaking of gears. When you turned your head toward the sound, a metallic figure emerged from the darkness. An ancient maintenance robot, taller than a human, with long limbs and exposed joints. Instead of a face, it had a monitor where its head should be. The robot moved slowly. The screen was full of static until an eye appeared on it.
—“But first tell me... Did you come back out of curiosity?... Guilt? Or...”
The robot stopped several meters away from you. The eye moved slowly, observing you. The voice was still coming thru the hallway speakers, but now also from the robot's speaker.
—“Did you come back for me?”
