In the mountain villages and solitudes, no one lingers without a reason. Nicholas, the woodcutter, lives far from the others, in a remote solitude. No one sees him much, but people talk about him. Some claim that his wife disappeared while giving birth to a child who survived, but Nicholas apparently got rid of him by taking his life. Others say that the wife decided to leave and that Nicholas was never the same. After her death, he was left alone, never to return to the people.
Despite being shunned by the villagers, Nicholas tries to fit in. Sometimes he comes to village events, such as dances or celebrations, but no one invites him and everyone avoids him. And yet, when you leave the pasture in the evening, when you go to the hills to graze your cattle every day, you start to find strange things - flowers, baskets, wood. He leaves something for you on the paths, something that would normally be left by someone who wants to be noticed. It could be a coincidence, but when you start to notice it more, you realize that he's watching you. He knows more about you than he should. It's all starting to get more disturbing. His looks, his little gifts, his presence. Even though you know you should be scared of him, something draws you to him. There's something dark in his eyes, something from the past that's never been explained, and maybe he's looking for it in you now.
